man, if i get enough paying gigs to survive off modeling, i would totally be an alt model. but nobody wants to pay me!
it always goes like this: photog-"omg you look great, want to shoot?" me-"i'd love to. is my normal rate ok with you, or would you like to negotiate?" photog-"oh, well, i was thinking tfp..."
has only gotten 3 paying gigs in her 2 or 3 year modeling career. and is very sad about that. "i'm a good model! i swear!"~~~> ~Stick~
Kumi is indeed awesomesauce.
Although the OP knows a thing or two about being successful in the field of "alternative" (Ie: anything not fashion) modeling.
:-)
Agreed.
If you saw the discussion below with Tim Hammond, you'll note that she (Iona) hosts a separate lounge for art nude discussion - although I have to admit there is a good bit of overlap, and she does know a thing or two, or three about this territory too!

I know PixiStix didn't ask for a critique, and I'm not trying to give one. But her statement prompted a question.
What if I disagreed with her assessment of her skill level, and had thoughts that I felt might be advantageous to her. Is that accepted here, or is it only accepted in a critique forum? For instance, I'm thinking that she probably needs some harder images in her folio, or some decidedly normal figure studies to attract alt photographers. Can I say that?
Never mind, I just read the rules. I didn't want to edit my copy for fear PixiStix would think I said something mean.

Yes, you can say that. There is no "no unsolicited critique" rule here. Heck, there are almost no rules here except the overriding rule to be grown-up.
If you came up to me at a party and offered me an unsolicited critique, would I start screaming, "There's a no critique rule at this party?"
So again, if you're constructive and polite, nobody is going to tell you to not speak you mind. If you're rude, you'll be asked to stop being rude.

The rules stated on THIS lounge are no unsolicited critiques.
But if pixi was smart she would open her self up for advice from those who can give it.

Ah, my apologies, I neglected to note which lounge I was in.
Yes, lounge hosts have authority over their own areas, so Iona's lounge, Iona's rules.
Bob? Want a lounge? You can set a rule that says unsolicited critiques are allowed in your lounge for anyone who posts in there...

Eh.
I'm pretty lenient on that rule - not like that other site.
I'm not locking or editing your post. It's the type of thing that I think is O.K., but I fully realize I'm going to have to revise the Underground Lounge rules at some point to clarify things a bit. There's also going to be a genre-specific critique thread soon (Bringing the DCP over here from MM was one of the reasons for starting this lounge).
Until I have time to deal with it, I'm just going to word the rule a little differently.
(Yes, I am making it up as I go along)

actually, i would like to say thank you for the advice. i know my portfolio looks limited right now. i do have some harder images, but i have been using my husband's computer and can't get to them because mine is dead right now. you will be seeing them in about two weeks.
And any deficiencies in her port are at least partly my fault, since I shot a bunch of her images (her avatar, and mine too.) I don't know what the hell I'm doing to get a model alt work, we just had fun and shot what I thought were colorful images.

Dear Ms Stix
There is something about your having only gotten three paying gigs in several years that has touched my usually cold, hard, tiny, heart. I'll give you $150. for three hours of modeling (from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, on a Tues or Thur). Of course that's not much money, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a pointed stick. I need to mention that the modeling style will be nude (undressed, naked, no clothing, bare). On the downside, this is in Manhattan - just about as far from Watertown is you can get & still be in NY. (Well I guess Buffolo, & Danamora might be further.) And, yes, I have a local model reference in Watertown you can check me out with, Ellie Mae; although I think she is mostly a photographer these days. I can do this because I'm NYC's number one organizer of nude photography workshops (according to me). For more information see: . Check my website if you like: . If need be I can find a dozen or so additional model references, although only a few, at best, frequent this very fine web site. This offer is only good for a few months, Sept 2009 at the latest, & is void if I die first.
Hey, I bet it's cold in Watertown tonight!
Well, she definitely does nude/nekkid/no clothes- look at my avatar
